Introduction
This paper looks into the relationship between players and longterm interaction with games, specificially open-world Action RPGs. It postulates the existence of an additional state of gameplay – the “routine state” that occurs after the flow state and involves less focused and meaningful, but consistent longterm interaction with a game.
